Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), is the most famous tourist attraction in the Stavanger region. Lonely Planet recommend the Pulpit Rock as "one of the world’s most breathtaking viewing platforms".
The Pulpit Rock rises 604 meters above the Lysefjord.
The approximately 30 x 30 meters flat mountain plateau, was formed by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. The hike takes approx. 4 hours back and forth. A total distance of approx. 7,6 km. On the hike from Preikestolen Mountain Lodge you can enjoy the wild and beautiful nature all the way to the Pulpit Rock. The terrain is hilly with an altitude difference of 334 m.
You will find swimming and picnic areas along the trail.

The best steps to enjoy a perfect Pulpit Rock experience:1. Prepare and plan: Pick the day and choose from one of our three route tables; Weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. 2. Booking and/or tickets: If you are a small group no prebooking is needed. Buy tickets on the bus or at Stavanger touristinformation. We recommend that groups of 15 or more prebooks on pulpitrock@boreal.no or telephone + 47 51 74 02 40 (between 07.30 and 15.30) 3. Preparing and packing: The tour requires good shoes and preferably hiking shoes and hiking clothing. Do bring your own food and drink, but you can have a fantastic dinner if you choose so at the start/end of the trail at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. 4. On the day of your walk: Please show up on the bus stop and signal the bus marked Pulpit Rock or Preikestolen. Or take the ferry to Tau from the ferryterminal in Stavanger. See map. 5. Enjoy the day.
